About River Walk

The site is located on the West Bank of the River Lagan and is 0.247 hectares (2475 sq.m.). The site is occupied by a three storey building with a footprint of 0.12 hectares (1123 sq.m.), less than half of the total site available.

In September 1995, a planning application for the Mays Meadow development was submitted (Z/1995/2807) proposing a multi-use development consisting of 118 bedroom hotel, restaurant and bar, 40 apartments, 48 self-contained flats, service station, drive-in restaurant, 35000 sq ft office space and 85 underground car parking spaces. This application was approved February 1996.

In May 1996, a planning application was submitted (Z/1995/2807R) for Site 4 of the Mays Meadow development proposing 48 no. self contained flats for mature singles. This application was approved in October 1996.

In May 1997, a planning application was submitted (Z/1997/2351) proposing the development of a public house/ licensed restaurant on Site 2 of the Mays Meadow development. This application was approved in September 1997 and the establishment later became known as The Edge bar and restaurant.

In September 1997, a planning application was submitted (Z/1995/2807T) for Site 6 of the Mays Meadow development proposing a Kentucky Fried Chicken drive thru restaurant. This application was approved in November 1997.

The Edge bar and restaurant closed in 2010. The building underwent a £1million refurbishment and opened as El Divino nightclub. El Divino, which originated in Ibiza, featured four different rooms, including an exclusive Heineken ‘Green Room’ over three floors.

In 2015, El Divino was placed on the market for £1.75million. This included the building, license, business, fixture and fittings as well the franchisee rights for Ireland.

In December 2017, the site was acquired by Bemore Group and they submitted Proposal of Application Notice (LA04/2017/2771/PAN) proposing a residential led development comprising c. 160 apartments, ground floor retail, car parking, reception area and associated plant/equipment storage. El Divino had also ceased trading in 2017. However, the nightclub later opened under the name Plastik. Plastik continued to trade in the Mays Meadow building until it closed in 2020, with their main club night moving to Kremlin Nightclub.
