The Cranthorpe Corner, formerly known as Stormont Apartments, site is located at the junction of Holywood Road and Belmont Road, known locally as Gelston's Corner, in East Belfast. The site is broadly triangular in shape and extends to approximately 0.1 hectares in size. The lands have previously been developed as a two storey building which was occupied by a public house called The Stormont Inn and a commercial unit. Part of the site was demolished around 2010 and had housed John R Keir & Co Solictors. The Stormont Inn section of the site was demolished in February 2017.

In October 2015, Stormont Inn Ltd submitted a planning application (LA04/2015/1160/F) proposing to demolish the existing build and to construct a five storey building comprising 18 apartments with balconies. This application was approved in May 2017.

In November 2019, Stormont Inn Ltd submitted a planning application (LA04/2019/2778/F) proposing the construction of a five storey residential building comprising 18 no. two bedroom apartments and 5 no. one bedroom apartments (23 apartments in total) with associated amenity space, cycle & bin storage, landscaping and site works. As of November 2019, the apartment development was known simply as 'Stormont Apartments'. This application was approved in September 2021. The building will be developed for Clanmil Housing Association for social housing.

Kelly Brothers was appointed the principal contractor with the project starting in May 2022.

In June 2023, the new apartment development by Clanmil Housing, located on the site of the former Stormont Inn in east Belfast, was named by two local schoolchildren. Reece Haddock from Victoria Park Primary School and Olly Reid from Strandtown Primary School both independently suggested variations of the same name - Cranthorpe Corner - inspired by a former hotel building in the vicinity.

The Cranthorpe Corner development is expected to be completed in July 2024.
